Lucrezia's interview with expert sasha lassey of everyday she's sparkling

Headshot of Sasha for TestimonialSasha Lassey is a blogger who has a passion for entrepreneurial life. She has been building businesses and growing teams for the past 15 years and now she helps other women entrepreneurs grow their side-hustles through blogging. She provides blogging tips and tutorials and offers one-on-one consultations at Everyday She’s Sparkling to help you get your blog on track for success.

Can you tell us a bit about your blog and what brought you to blogging?

I’ve been an entrepreneur for as many years as I could remember. I’ve always had a passion for building businesses and helping other women do the same.

Blogging actually came about by accident. A co-worker of mine suggested we start blogs together and I thought it might be a fun idea.

I had no idea how much I would love blogging or what an amazing resource it could be for women growing their side hustles. I jumped in and consumed everything I could possibly get my hands on and I was certainly overwhelmed at times.

What started off as just a fun side Hustle has grown into an amazing platform to help other women do the same.

What’s your view on starting a blog in 2019?

I think historically blogging was looked at more of an online diary reserved just for people who want to tell their stories.

It has evolved so much and is quickly gaining notice as being a profitable way to do business.

Blogging is an amazing opportunity for anyone wanting to share their story, build their business or make money on the side and opens up a door for so many people.

You no longer have to have a business degree or be a web developer to build your own blog.

And because of that, over two million blog post being published every day! What an incredible time!

What are your 3 best tips to start and grow a blog in 30 days?

First get your blog set up for success from the start. This means that you need to invest in a self-hosted site.

A lot of bloggers think that they can get started on a free plan through sites like blogger or free WordPress and then realize what a struggle it is later on down the road when they have to switch over to a self-hosted site to be able to properly monetize.

Second, create quality content. Always provide amazing value to your audience no matter what you’re writing about.

Think what they struggle with and how you can best help them. More is always better, and you should always give more than you get. The step will get you far – I promise.

It’s also best to only create as much content as you can with quality in mind. Sure, posting 7 days a week with 500-word posts will get your site filled quickly but writing one piece per week that is loaded with value will keep readers coming back for more. This is key to growing your credibility and followers.

And last, start focusing on search engine optimization early in your blogging career. It will take time to grow organic traffic through search engines like Google and the sooner you start optimizing your posts for SEO, the faster it will come. It’s also a whole lot easier doing it from the beginning then going back and revamping all of those posts.

What are the most common mistakes new bloggers make when starting a blog and what would you recommend doing instead?

I think one of the most common mistakes all beginner bloggers do is trying to do it all at once. There’s so many things to learn about as a new blogger and it can be hard to figure out which to focus on first.

There’s blog setup, content creation, marketing your blog, email list, product creation, legal pages, and the list goes on and on.

I see so many bloggers give up when they realize how overwhelming all of these things are and they’re not sure what the next steps are to take their blog to the next level.

I recommend setting yourself up for success by making a very specific plan and following it. Tackling one new thing at a time, mastering it, and then finding a way to automate it so that you can move on to focus on the next part of your plan.

Set your blog up for success by making a very specific plan and following it!
