Search Engine Traffic
Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ecosia, DuckDuckGo, etc. Whatever search engine you prefer, it’s a powerful way to drive traffic to your blog.
I know this is the most common suggestion found when attempting to gain blog traffic. But there’s a reason it’s such a popular traffic source. It’s powerful!
You must learn SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It’s crucial to long-lasting, organic traffic.
SEO can seem daunting, especially to beginner bloggers. You’ll need to think about:
- site speed
- keyword research
- bounce rates
- optimized titles and headings
- alternative text
- backlinks
- and so much more!
Luckily, it does not need to be as overwhelming as it may seem. Learning it doesn’t even take a big investment (I see you, brand new bloggers with little, to no budget)!
You can start with this resource of mine or you can enroll in this free course by Debbie Gartner, so you can’t tell me you can’t afford to learn SEO.
Is the future of your business worth a couple of hours of your time? You know it is! Give it a try!
Learning SEO is one of those things you’ll wish you learned from day one. And good SEO techniques take time to see results. So the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll see that profitable, organic traffic.

Email Marketing Converts to Traffic
Never stop collecting email subscribers. They’re an invaluable source of blog traffic (and potential income).
Your email list is yours. No one can take away your access to that audience, unlike a social media platform that could change any day and stop working for you.
Your subscribers join your list because they’re already interested in the topic you blog about. So you’re halfway there. But once you get people onto your email list, it’s important to continue to offer them value so they don’t leave.
And it’s just good practice for your blog posts to contain valuable, helpful info. Right?
Simply share a relatable issue you may have been having, along with a link to your new content that will help them through a similar challenge.
Maybe you don’t have a new post to share but still want to drive traffic to your blog. Let your email list know what’s working for you (or not), or maybe mention a new tool you’re using on your site and encourage them to click over to see it in action.
It can also help your traffic to email your list at the right time. Head on over to your Google Analytics to see when your audience is most active. Try sending your email at that time to see if you notice an increase in traffic. Experiment and see what works best for your audience.
Brand new to email marketing? Create a freebie you are confident can help your readers and offer it in exchange for their email addresses. I use ConvertKit as my email service provider. They make it easy to create sign-up forms and landing pages for your freebie and start collecting loyal readers to bring you that juicy traffic!
A popular option among new bloggers is Mailerlite as it’s free up to 1000 subscribers but it comes with almost all premium features including automations.
Networking to Boost Traffic
It’s not always what you know, sometimes it’s who you know! Reach out to other bloggers in your niche to help boost traffic. You could ask to do a freebie exchange or a link exchange. If you’re in the same niche, chances are you can mention a post of theirs in one of your own. And likely, vice versa.
You can also reach out to others for guest posting opportunities. Or find another blogger in your niche with a larger following and ask if you can interview them for your blog.
By hosting guest bloggers you offer new insight and value to your readers. Not only that, it’s good publicity for the guest too. They’ll more than likely share your post with their audience and potentially drive brand new readers to your blog.
If you can, find someone looking for a guest blogger for their site and volunteer. You’ll once again get a fresh set of eyes on your words and potentially over to your blog to see what you have to say.
Facebook groups are a great way to find like-minded bloggers in your niche. Feel free to join my Facebook group, Blogging For New Bloggers. With over 35,000 members, you’re sure to find someone you can collaborate with.
It's not always what you know, sometimes it's who you know! Reach out to other bloggers in your niche to help boost traffic.
Generating Traffic With Blog Comments
So many people don’t utilize this simple tip, but leaving comments on other blog posts can drive traffic to your own site! Of course, it helps if you are commenting on blogs within your own niche.
Just make sure you are commenting as your blog name (so the readers know where to find your content).
WHAT you say in your comments also matters. Simply leaving a comment saying you enjoyed the post isn’t going to entice anyone to click over to your blog. Instead, leave an insightful comment that makes it clear you have some authority on the topic.
If you can give a clear indication that you have more to say about the subject (without stealing focus from the original post), you can peak the reader’s attention and you’ll see traffic coming on over to see if you have more to offer!
Also, getting comments on your own blog posts can help with SEO and ranking. So blog comments are just great for traffic whether they are on your own posts or someone else’s!

Find Where Your Ideal Audience Hangs Out
Take some time to get to know your audience.
Who are they? What are they struggling with? And most importantly, where do they go to find that help?
Do your research and find out where your ideal audience spends their time online. Some blog niches do better on Instagram than Facebook. Some favour Pinterest or YouTube.
For example: Travel and Beauty tend to do well on Instagram. Food or DIY bloggers see amazing results from Pinterest.
Sitting behind our computers and phones, it’s easy to forget the traffic we’re chasing actually has a person attached to it! Treat those people like people. Your people.
Think in terms of what your people need, how you specifically can help, where to find them, and the traffic will follow.

Share New and Old Content to Social Media
Social media is another popular place to share blog posts to boost traffic. And there are many platforms to choose from. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, etc.
Don’t feel pressured to use every social platform available. You don’t want to stretch yourself too thin. Experiment to see which platform works best for you and stick with it.
Share your latest posts, photos, helpful tips, and favourite products with your audience. If you’d like to grow your social media following, there are tools like MiloTree that can help you with that,
One place bloggers often miss out on traffic is failing to re-share their content! Don’t forget to share old blog posts and recommendations on a regular basis.
Each algorithm is a little different but you’re never going to get your post in front of ALL your followers, each time. By sharing them again, you’re more likely to reach those you missed the first time or people who weren’t following you in the past. Never forget to re-publish old posts by using a tool like SocialBee.

Drive Traffic With a Pinterest Business Account
Some still mistake Pinterest as a social media platform. But Pinterest is actually a search engine.
A visual search engine. And it’s a fantastic place to generate blog traffic!
Since Pinterest is a search engine, you once again need to think about SEO. This means using keywords in your profile title and description, pin title and description, and even board names and description.
Of course, you’ll also need to create eye-catching Pinterest pins to grab people’s attention and make them want to click through to your blog post. CanvaPro has fantastic features to make pin design quick and easy!
It is best to use photos on your pins that you’ve either paid for or taken by yourself (even if they aren’t amazing).
When Pinterest “sees” an overused, free stock photo, it can get confused about what the pin is actually about. This can be detrimental to your traffic if your pin is not showing up in the search results you intended it to.
For best results, avoid the free stock photo websites that everyone else is using. Choose high-quality, and not overly used stock photos. Depositphotos or Creative Market offer great photos at reasonable prices.
Creating a business account for your blog is a powerful way to get more eyes on your content. But only if done correctly. Succeeding with Pinterest requires strategy and patience. It’s not something to guess at if you truly want to see results.
